Can you use stroller as shopping cart? Of course you can! Here we take a look at a few hacks that show how to convert stroller to shopping cart. We will also take a look at the challenges faced by parents when they go for shopping with their stroller.
Here are typical scenarios showing how parents shop with their stroller:
Once we walk into to store with the baby in stroller, the baby goes into the carrier during the shopping time and I use the stroller as my shopping cart and load the groceries in the stroller. With a bit of practice, I could get around 200 bucks of groceries into an umbrella stroller. I have seen moms wearing their little one and pushing a cart. It looks like a great work out but I don’t thing I could do that.
I have seen parents pushing a double stroller in front, and pulling a smaller sized cart behind. While it looks doable I don’t think you can pull a bigger sized cart using that technique. You could use the stroller storage space to keep some stuff.
You get shopping cart hammock (one such product is Binxy Baby). Place your little on on the hammock and keep the hammock on the shopping cart. It seems you can even strap a car seat onto the Binxy Baby.
Convert Stroller into Shopping Cart
Have a lightweight stroller at home, which you don’t need any longer (for your kids)? Why not use it for shopping? Here are the different ways in which you can use your baby stroller as a portable shopping cart.
There are lot of parents who donate their stroller after their kids grow up as they have no use it for it. However, you can always re-purpose the stroller into something useful, which you could still use.
Then there are parents who buy a stroller but then don’t use it much (for whatever reasons – may be its not as convenient as they had anticipated) and it ends up being in storage for years.
I guess, these videos will give you some ideas to put them into reuse.
And doing this project is quite easy actually – you just need the will to rip things off of your stroller and a few tools such as screwdriver, wedges, pliers.

Another simple design would be to use heavy canvas to enclose the front of the carriage. Let it arch out (a foot) from the front of the carriage. Just fit the canvas in place, slip the edges under the upholstery where it attaches to the handles. Make holes in che canvas and tighten the screws well. It won’t look attractive but will be functional and will hold a few sacks of groceries. However, if you want more structure, you can check out more ideas.
In case you decide to buy a used stroller for this purpose, I suggest you go in for a jogging stroller with nice big wheels, instead of some cheap umbrella strollers that come with small flimsy wheels that can easily get caught in small cracks on the sidewalk.
Another thing to keep in mind, strollers are designed to carry kids that weigh 12-30 pounds (including all their baby essentials). Groceries can easily weigh over 50 lbs and put stress on the stroller chassis.
Another easy option is to just remove the padding and straps and then use things like hooks and [easyazon_link keywords=”carabiner” locale=”US” tag=”strollers0e2-20″]over-sized carabiners[/easyazon_link]. It lets you easily hang your existing bags of the stroller.
Finally, if all these seem to be much of a hassle, you can easily find shopping carts on Amazon.
