Strollers come with either three or four wheels. Four-wheel strollers are better suited for urban spaces and for navigating through crowded places and tight corners. Three-wheel strollers are versatile and better suited for off-roading.
Strollers come in various kinds and styles (frame stroller, jogging, all-terrain, travel system, etc.), so parents have to narrow down the choices available by focusing on their requirements.
Strollers also have several features, and the number of wheels on a stroller can impact the way it moves. Strollers are commonly available in 3-wheel and 4-wheel designs.
Here are the main differences between 3-wheel strollers and 4-wheel strollers.
Center of gravity: Even though four wheels are not necessary on a stroller, it can make the stroller more stable than three wheels. Four wheels is the classic design for most moving objects with wheels.
However, one disadvantage of a four-wheel stroller is that it makes maneuvering a bit more difficult, and turning can be difficult in crowded places.
However, these tend to be less expensive compared to their 3-wheel counterparts.
Three wheels are used in some full-size strollers and on most jogging strollers. 3-wheel strollers usually have bigger rear wheels in order to increase their stability (which they lose due to one less wheel)
These are easier to maneuver around sharp corners, and they are also suited to all kinds of terrains.
Because 3-wheel strollers allow parents to lead an active lifestle, these have increased in popularity in recent years.
3-wheels makes the stroller a bit wobbly, and the concern is that a three wheel stroller could tip over. that is why most 3-wheel strollers use larger rear wheels which adds more stability to the stroller and prevents it from being knocked over.
The front wheel of most three wheel strollers are lockable, so you can lock it in place when jogging, or allow it to swivel when walking.
There are various kinds of strollers, each suited to the different needs of parents. For example, a travel system is better suited if you plan to drive around much with your baby (with an infant car seat). A jogging stroller is for parents who are into running/jogging.
Strollers also come with several features, and they are available in three-wheel and four-wheel designs.
The number of wheels in a stroller impacts the stroller’s movement. If you want a stroller that is versatile and easy to steer, and better suited for jogging, hiking, snow, or sand, you may find it beneficial to get a three-wheeled stroller. These come with large back wheels that improve stability. However, if it’s just for a stroll near your house or in the park and mostly within the city, you could consider buying a stroller with 4-wheels.
